  • Kosher Food in the Dolomites: How It Really Works — In Val di Fassa there's no kosher restaurant and no kosher store. How do you eat there for a whole week from the same kitchen, what goes up the mountain with you, and what to leave at home.

Questions about Kosher food

What is the level of kashrut?

Glatt Mehadrin with a mashgiach on site: Chalav Yisrael, Pat Yisrael, Bishul Yisrael, and full separation between dairy and meat. The kitchen and bakery at the kosher hotel in Alba di Canazei are under the same kashrut, and the mikveh is also located in the hotel.

Is there kosher food in the area outside the hotel?

No. In the Val di Fassa valley there are no kosher restaurants and no kosher shops, and the local shops have no bread, meat or dairy products with kosher certification. All your food comes from our kitchen. The details are in the article Kosher Food in the Dolomites.

What do you eat in the middle of the ski day?

It's not worth coming down from the mountain at midday, and the mountain huts aren't kosher. So at the end of breakfast you make sandwiches from the buffet and take them up the mountain, along with fruit and a snack. This is part of the package. It's worth having a small thermos for a hot drink.

Do I need to bring food from home?

No, and it's not worth it. From breakfast to dinner, including what you take up the mountain and including the Shabbat meals, everything comes from our kitchen. You can arrive with a suitcase of clothes only.

Is there an option for vegetarians, allergies or gluten?

Yes. The kitchen prepares vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free meals on request. You note this at registration, and for a severe allergy you also tell our team at the hotel on arrival day.
