FAQ Frequently asked questions about kosher ski in Europe
Where can you ski kosher in Europe?
A permanent kosher hotel inside a ski resort is rare in Europe. Har Tayarut runs two kosher ski vacations: Canazei in the Dolomites (Italy) at MY KOSHER HOTEL — a permanent 4-star glatt mehadrin kosher hotel in the heart of Dolomiti Superski, with weekly departures all winter — and La Plagne in the French Alps (Paradiski), in a hotel that is entirely ours for one week before Passover. In Switzerland a long-established kosher hotel operates in Arosa, and various operators run one-off kosher weeks over Chanukah and Passover in resorts such as Courchevel, Cervinia or Kaprun.
Is there a permanent kosher hotel inside a ski resort in Europe?
Yes, but very few. MY KOSHER HOTEL in Alba di Canazei (Dolomites, Italy) is a permanent 4-star glatt mehadrin kosher hotel with an on-site mashgiach, a synagogue and a mikveh, inside the Val di Fassa – Carezza ski area. In Switzerland, Levin’s Kosher Metropol operates in Arosa. Most other options are a regular hotel kashered for a single week.
Which kosher ski resort is best for families with children?
Both of our destinations were built for families: Canazei has a ski school, a snow garden, wide beginner slopes and a hotel with family rooms, a pool and a Hebrew-speaking team; La Plagne is regularly ranked among the best family ski resorts in Europe — easy learning areas, ski-in ski-out from the hotel, and 425 km of pistes for the parents. The difference: Canazei all winter, La Plagne one week before Passover.
Should I book directly with the hotel or through a package from Israel?
A direct booking with a kosher hotel covers accommodation and meals only; flights, airport transfers, the ski pass and on-site support are left to you. A Har Tayarut package bundles all of them in one booking, with a Hebrew-speaking team at the hotel and an organized Shabbat. The right comparison is the full cost for the same dates — not a room rate against a package price.
What is the difference between a permanent kosher hotel and a one-off kosher week?
In a permanent kosher hotel the kitchen is kosher all year, the synagogue and mikveh are part of the hotel, and the staff are used to observant guests. In a one-off week an operator kashers a regular hotel for a week: the standard depends entirely on the operator — who the mashgiach is, whether there is a daily minyan, and what happens on Shabbat. That is why every detail of a one-off week should be verified in advance.
